[mrtg] Can MaxBytes be an external program?

Hi all.  I've been lurking for a while, you guys are a great help.

My question is can I call an external program from MaxBytes, ala Target?  I've
a network of modem banks in different pops.  I'd like to track modem usage
across all pops.  I can get all the info, but the number of modems on the
network changes frequently (weekly).  I'd like to calculate the total number of
modems on the network and give that to MaxBytes, i can already calculate the
total modems in use and give that to Target.
