I believe it reads the ifspeed value

.iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifSpeed
.1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.5

Subject: [mrtg] Max Speed on Router

Can anyone tell me how the "Max Speed" field
is determined. On one of our routers it reads
"8012.0 Bytes/s (frame-relay)". Our network
specialist does not feel this is accurate.
Wondering if this is physically set on the router.

Thanks in advance,

-M-
