Add the following line to your cfg files for each interface that you want to
map in bits/sec:

Options[name of thing]: bits

MRTG will automatically convert it to kbits for you.

as far as collecting data, if I understand you correctly, you are running
the collector from the command line MANUALLY each time? you need to run job
scheduler that will collect the data on a regular basis. In *nix
environments, all you do is make a "crontab" entry for each collector...

There are plenty of docs available on the MRTG page to describe setting this
up for your environment.
