The way that I have figured out in the past how long it takes MRTG to run is to watch how long the mrtg.ok file exists. It's not exactly a scientific method, but for a rough estimate, it was good enough.

I'm running with what is probably a fairly small .cfg file compared to some,
5792 lines for 307 targets. On a P3-600 w/ 128 megs running linux, it
finishes in 57 seconds on average.

My .cfg file has grown to 26 pages of text and almost 1500 lines. I'm
running on a Pentium NT 550mhz.
I'm just wondering if I'm overloading my collector.
Is there a more efficient way to collect?
