[mrtg] frozen graphs

I have been experiencing a problem on and off for the past 9 months. I've
recently updated to mrtg version 2.9.25. Up until then I've been running
2.9.17 quite nicely, except for the following issue. I pull about 50
traffic graphs from various routers. Sometimes when a circuit drops the
graph does not pickup where it left off and just freezes. Othertimes the
graph will drop to zero and never come back. The latest frozen graph I had
was Inbound traffic still worked, but the outbound was frozen at a
particular level. In the first two (which has been the most common) the
Daily graphs seem to lock at a particular time and never start-up again.
The latter graph's Inbound measurments started working and kept up with
the current time. Is there a way to repair the data file so that mrtg will
continue to use the collected data? Up until now, I've resigned myself to
just archiving the old data and graphs, deleting them from the main data
directory and letting the process start over. I understand that a lost
connection will result in either the zero level or the frozen level. My
question is about the recovery or repair process. mrtg, in some cases,
will not come back from the lost connection state. Some data collections
have survived power outages and such and I have not had any problems. I
can't seem to figure out either the connections between the lost graphs to
prevent it or how to repair the damaged data collection file.
