If you are using Windows, you may wish to look at using STG which is based
upon MRTG but updates the graph every 1 second (or desired interval). This
is a simple executable that runs out of the box.  Alternatively you could
use the graphing capability within GetIf, a windows based snmp browser and
set the refresh interval accordingly.

This may be simpler than trying to adjust MRTG to use intervals less than 5
minutes, particularly if you are just troubleshooting.

Sorry, I haven't got the appropriate URLs to hand, but a quick google
search or suchlike shoudl turn them up pretty quickly.
