Raj,

You are right about the changing of index numbers for your interfaces,
but when using '--ifref=descr' or '--ifref=name' in your cfgmaker
command line you can circumvent this.

You can change your configuration to fixed names in stead of ever
changing index numbers as follows:
1. make a copy of your current *.cfg file
2. stop the mrtg polling
3. rerun your previous cfgmaker command with the '--ifref=descr' added
4. Per interface copy the *.log and *.old file and rename to the names
you find in the new *.cfg file. (for instance the file router_14.log
will become router_Se0.log)
5. Start MRTG again with the new cfg file.

>From now you can add interfaces, restart your router and rerun cfgmaker
as often as you wish, without worrying about the index numbers of
interfaces.

Jan.

The 1st idea that comes to my mind is to re-run cfgmaker, but output it
to a different *.cfg (ex. keep mrtg.cfg, re-run cfgmaker to create
mrtg2.cfg). Copy the info for the added interface and cut/paste it into
your original *.cfg. Restart MRTG and it should just "add" the new
interface. I've been up for awhile, but that's the first thing to pop
into my head.

Good Luck!
