hi Bernard,

i did try compiling with gcc 4.2.1, however the configure script fails  
when checking for proper IEEE math support:
configure: error:
Your Compiler does not do propper IEEE math ... Please find out how to
make IEEE math work with your compiler and let me know  
(tobi at oetiker.ch).
Check config.log to see what went wrong ...

i searched the net and found several posts regarding the same problem,  
but no working solution.
