[mrtg] MRTG measurement of traffic

Hi

Can you tell me the method MRTG uses to calculate the throughput and
traffic ?
Looking at the source code it seems to uses unicast packets
deliverd/dropped and
waiting in outbound queue.., although I'm not sure.
How accurate are the calculations, i.e. just the sample rate, f.e. 5
minutes ?
