[mrtg] can ThreshProg be a perl script?

I would expect that the answer is yes, but I can't seem to prove that : (
I set ThreshMaxO to an extremely low value so that my ThreshProgO gets run
on every instance of mrtg. When ThreshProg is a shell script, it runs fine,
but when I put a PERL script in there that does nothing but open a file and
print "yep" into it (and which runs sucessfully from the command line), it
seems to never be run... It's not a permissions problem with writing to the
file, as both scripts write to the same file.
Anyone have any help to offer? It's be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Mark
