[mrtg] Using MRTG to measure volume of data going through port

Hi all!

I'm trying to use mrtg to measure the volume of data being transmitted.
Does anyone have this experience?  If yes, how should I config my
parameters?

I will appreciate any help.

PS:  The equipment is a Cisco 2501 and I'm using mrtg 2.8.8.
