[mrtg] Strings, and variables???

Hi guys, 


Now I'd like to get the admin-status of my router and display the variable
in a web page.

The oid is 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.7.3 -port 3- but MRTG tells me "1" , because
1=up, 
Using Getif , it tells me "up"

My question is about the possibiliuty to get "strings" in MRTG?

I guess MRTG just works with numerical data, but I'd like to know if I can
get string-variables.
