[mrtg] Re: When an interface dies....

I'm using MRTG on UNIX, and the process launched by the "cron" (mrtg mrtg.cfg in
the crontab every 5 mn).

when an interface is not answering, it's not at all a problem, the others are
polled correctly.
if the cause is the death of an equipment, nothing to do, but wait for a
rebirth.
if it's because the ip address was modified, just modify it in the .cfg file.
other solution could be to use the "name" of the equipement, but that implies
DNS requests, that is to say "unnecessary" traffic....

I have MRTG monitoring multiple devices
(Switches and Netware Servers)

If one of the devices dies..mrtg displays an error about it being unreachable
I am curious about the monitoring after this.

Does the script die

Does it continue to monitor the other devices in the config

What about when the doa device comes back up will it begin monitoring it
again on its own.

Should I always restart MRTG for that config when these errors occur.
