Very interesting, I have the same error for one of my NT boxes as well.
This is my experience with 5 NT servers that I've tried MRTG for:
Procedure:
-install network monitor tools and agent service
-install snmp service
-configure snmp service (identical throughout except for trap ip address)
-set all 3 (network monitor/snmp/snmp trap) services to "automatic" startup
-reinstall service pack 5
-do the registry and mib.bin entries from perfm.zip to enable the correct oid's
-reboot the server
Here are the results:
- 2 of the NT servers' snmp services work perfectly, no problems.
- 2 of the NT servers' snmp services work, but do not recognize the oid's for
memory free and cpu usage (1.3.6.1.4.1.311.1.1.3.1.1.7.1.0 and
1.3.6.1.4.1.311.1.1.3.1.1.23.9.0) <---just typed them off the top of my head
w/o verifying so if it's off by a number or a decimal, ignore..I have the
correct ones in a file somewhere.
- 1 of the NT servers' snmp service works, snmpget from a unix box gets the
correct values returned, putting the oid's in a cfg file returns the same error
Alan has shown below. But I have not specified any 1.3.6.1.2 number.
Why does Microsoft make life so difficult sometimes?
You can look at the charts I have set up here:
http://hboss-bsd.powersurfr.com
The "Test Area" is for one of the servers that work. I use the same config
files w/minor config-name changes and yet I get the results I described above.
Does anyone see a glimmer of light at the end of this dark tunnel?
