1. Check your webservers error log file for messages, they should be
more verbose
2. Add the following to your mrtg config file:
14all*grapherrorstobrowser: 1
the red message will be more verbose
3. if you still don't have a clue add the line
14all*rrdtoollog: /tmp/rrdtoollog
and the file "/tmp/rrdtoollog" will contain the call to rrdtool
(don't forget to remove/comment the line later or 14all will
fill your disk)
You should find a message after each rrdtool call stating whether it
succeeded or why it failed

PS: Looks like 14all needs a FAQ about what to do when "it's not working"
