[mrtg] 'kilo' option?

Can someone tell me when I should use the 'kilo' option? For
example, I'm graphing my sendmail transfer stats. The value reported
to MRTG is in kilobytes. In a related question, how do I make MRTG
*not* try to convert from bytes to kilobytes when the value reaches
XYZ? Its hard to explain. Here's the page.

http://ipgate.sktc.net/stats/sktc/mail-size-server1.html

The current incoming and outgoing values are already in kilobytes.
Out the max outgoing MRTG decided to convert what it though was bytes
into k again which I don't want. Any thoughts? Should I rewrite my
script to convert everything to bytes before passsing it to MRTG or
can I keep MRTG from playing with the numbers? TIA

Justin
