[mrtg] MIB reading

Hi all.
Once I have a .MIB file that corresponds to the device I would like to query
through snmp......what do I do with it? Stupid question, but I'm not sure
what information I could derive from a mib file. I know enough about snmp to
manage our entire network, but when it comes to understanding MIB's enough
to make the job of knowing what a particular OID represents....I'm clueless.
Anyone?
