This just means that MRTG was unable to get an SNMP response from the
interface identified as "SNMP IF 1", on the box at address "localhost",
using the community string "public".
Some troubleshooting steps:
- Check the box name/ip address.
- Check to make sure that you have the community string correct.
- Check directly from the console of the box "localhost" to see if SNMP IF 1
is the interface that you think it is.
- Execute "cfgmaker public at localhost > temp.cfg" and look at the generated
"temp.cfg" file.
- If you get a list of interfaces that match up to the box's interfaces,
you know you've got the community string and address correct.
- Check to see if SNMP IF 1 is the interface that you think it is.
- Try using an SNMP tool to issue the SNMPGET directly, and see what
response you get. If you get no response, check to see if SNMP traffic is
coming across at all.
