[mrtg] Oddness: one ascend box is sulking, or is it?

I'm currently having some trouble with an Ascend MAX that keeps
upsetting MRTG, despite the fact that

a) All the other (AFAICT identically configured) Maxen are fine.
b) snmpget can get the relevant bits from it quite happily.

A config snippet:

Target[ascend.energis]:
1.3.6.1.4.1.529.10.5.0&1.3.6.1.4.1.529.11.3.0:public at box-131 +
1.3.6.1.4.1.529.10.5.0&1.3.6.1.4.1.529.11.3.0:public at box-132 +
1.3.6.1.4.1.529.10.5.0&1.3.6.1.4.1.529.11.3.0:public at box-133 +
1.3.6.1.4.1.529.10.5.0&1.3.6.1.4.1.529.11.3.0:public at box-134 +
1.3.6.1.4.1.529.10.5.0&1.3.6.1.4.1.529.11.3.0:public at box-135 +
1.3.6.1.4.1.529.10.5.0&1.3.6.1.4.1.529.11.3.0:public at box-136 +
1.3.6.1.4.1.529.10.5.0&1.3.6.1.4.1.529.11.3.0:public at box-138 +
1.3.6.1.4.1.529.10.5.0&1.3.6.1.4.1.529.11.3.0:public at box-139
[end snippet]

This works fine. However, if I exchange box-139 for box-137 and run
mrtg on the config file, I get this:

[root at tools manual]# mrtg ascend.boxen.cfg
NJC
SNMP Error:

tried multiple times!
[end output]

SNMPget doesn't have any trouble at all:

[root at tools manual]# snmpget box-137 public .1.3.6.1.4.1.529.10.5.0
enterprises.529.10.5.0 = 89
[root at tools manual]# snmpget box-137 public .1.3.6.1.4.1.529.11.3.0
enterprises.529.11.3.0 = 90
[end output]

So why on Earth is this box in particular killing MRTG? Any tips or
ideas would be greatly appreciated!
