The 3640 doesn't provide any snmp information on the channel, other than it
is up or down.

I have a 3640 with 4 POTS lines that I am monitoring by using the
gw-accounting command and parsing the syslog messages (see:
http://209.198.142.180/mrtg/orhs/callsum.html ). I have thought about
calculating loads (bytes transfered and duration of calls is all listed) but
haven't thought of a really clever way to present it yet.

If you just want to find out how many calls are active at any time, you
should be able to count up the number of dial-peers with ifOperStatus = 1
1=call in progress, 4 = waiting for a call). Any of the scripts used to
monitor active modems could be modified pretty quickly for that purpose.
