What I've done for monitoring (to make it a little more human for those who
do not want to do a conversion in their heads) is to make MRTG output the
results in MBits instead of MBytes. Here is an example from a config:
========================================
Target[10.x.x.x.6]: 6:<community>@10.x.xx
MaxBytes[10.x.x.x.6]: 12500000
Options[10.x.x.x.6]: bits
WithPeak[10.x.x.x.6]: ymw
Title[10.x.x.x.6]: sysName (): Ethernet
PageTop[10.x.x.x.6]: <H1>Traffic Analysis for Ethernet
</H1>
<TABLE>
<TR><TD>System:</TD><TD>sysName in sysLocation</TD></TR>
<TR><TD>Maintainer:</TD><TD>sysContact</TD></TR>
<TR><TD>Interface:</TD><TD>Ethernet (6)</TD></TR>
<TR><TD>IP:</TD><TD> ()</TD></TR>
<TR><TD>Max Speed:</TD>
<TD>100 Mbits/s (ethernetCsmacd)</TD></TR>
</TABLE>
========================================
The "Options[x]: bits" tells MRTG to do the math for you and convert bytes
to bits. MaxBytes is where I tell it my bandwidth to expect which should
reflect 100mb's as I have in the html.
