[mrtg] monitoring fast SNMP devices anyone ?

I will be required to monitor some fast (STM-1) and some very fast (GB)
interfaces soon I would like to do this with MRTG since most other devices
are monitored with it altready.
 
I know smart ideas exist for using snmpv2 with MRTG. I would like to know if
anyone has these configs up&running and what they use. Please do not come
with short polling sequences, since I would like to use normal 5 minute
sequences.
