I was also receiving the errors after several attempts to run BB.  A few
days ago I was successfully running 2.8.? without any problems.  Then I
upgraded to 2.9.2 and saw the same errors.  I removed the snmpv2 option
which was the only other change I made and the errors went away.

have you just set your config up ?
The first (2?) times you run mrtg after setting up the config file it will
complain due to it needing to set all the data files up. Usually on the
first pass it moans about thee being no datafiles, and on the second there
being no 'old' files, and being unable to rotate.

After the initial two runs things should be fine.

Another possible cause could be permission problems, can mrtg actually write
to the WorkDir: specified ?
