No it's not 839. This is line 839 in 2.9.0 or one of the pre-versions.
Line 839 in 2.9.1 is

  return if $$ref eq "";

in ensureSL. It looks like 14all calls ensureSL with a ref to a undef'd
var. I'll check this. Sorry for the wrong suspect.
