If you end up with two log files, one containing historical data
(from a backup or so) and one containing recent data, you can merge
them into a new file by hand.
Go into the doc directory and read all about the log file format.
When you have done this, you understand which part of the log file
has the historical data you want and which part of the new log file
has the current data (for instance, the last day).
1st thing to do is to make both log files "current" by updating them.
To do this you need to run MRTG on both of them (use different names).
The time stamps on each line (lines 1 tru 5 may differ) should be
the same. Now it is just a matter of copying lines 1 tru n from the
new file followed by lines n+1 tru last from the backup file.
The resulting file will contain correct information for the bigger
part, a few errors may remain.
