Sorry folks, I have managed to answer my own question after a
big more digging.
It seems that there is a known problem printing png graphics in
Internet Explorer 5.01. I guess the solution is to upgrade to v5.5.
Time to change the corporate standard again....

Subject: [mrtg] Printing PNG Graphics from Internet Explorer
Having successfully converted from mrtg 2.8.12 to 2.9.1, the graphs
are now created as png files. A good step forwards...
However, when printing these from an Internet Explorer 5 browser
the graphs appear in black and are unreadable. The rest of the
page is fine.
I am unable to try other browsers due to corporate standards, so
could someone tell me if this is a browser defficiency or is it
related to the way the png files are created.
I appreciate this is a little close to being off-topic but any advice
would be welcomed.
Regards,
