[mrtg] mrtg and negative numbers?

I have looked through all the docs I can find, and cannot find a reference to 
using negative numbers.  We are a broad band network provider and we wish to 
monitor the transmit levels of our broad-band modems (which is sometimes 
negative!)  I blindly hoped it supported negatives, but cannot find a way to 
get it to work.  Any help would be appreciated.
