To really help you: go away, for those SNMP questions.
This is serious. Just understand that there is a fundamental difference
between MRTG and SNMP just like the same difference between MRTG and
computers. You need both.
You can't expect us to answer on SNMP, computers, power distribution,
networking etcetera.
If those questions would be answered on a regular basis this list would
turn into a copy of other lists and this would not only annoy David.
There's too much noise as it is already.
If you don't know anything about SNMP *and* MRTG, you can still work
on your MRTG skills by monitoring the default OID, the ifInOctets and
ifOutOctets counters.
If you want more, you need to learn more. Search the web for SNMP and
there should be plenty of newsgroups, web pages etcetera to get you
started. A good book may also prove to be very useful.
Don't memorise those OIDs. Make sure you know where and how to find
them. This may take some more time and efford but it is worth it.
It is not only finding the correct OID, it is equally important to know
how to (and why so!) use it.
regards,
Alex
