[mrtg] Unknown Option "logformat"

Compiled and installed rrdtool w/o problem. All test in tutorial work fine. 
  I want to link w/ MRTG but receive the following error

  CFG Error: Unknown Option "logformat" on line 14 or above.
              Check readme.html for Help

  when I simply add the command "LogFormat: rrdtool" to the MRTG config file.

  Why?? I see this format along w/ commands such as "PathAdd:" in the 
  manual/syntax pages for MRTG but these options seem to throw that same 
  'unknown option' error.

  Am i missing something simple??
