[mrtg] "run" log on NT

I've just re-joined this list so I'm a bit behind in the news--I hope this
hasn't been discussed recently.
MRTG and I got (unfairly) kicked off the H-PUX machine we were on--long
sad story. After missing the MRTG data for a bit, "they" bought a Intel-
based commod, had somebody else install W2K and 2.8.12 on it--then sort
of walked away.
I recently decided to try and clean it up and make it useful to me again.
So, pass around the tissues for the weepy folk, and get on to the question.
Two necessary facts.
1. I rarely get 3 characters in five correct the first time I type something
(we stock "Backspace" keytops for me).
2. The MRTG in the H-PUX world complained bitterly whenever I entered
something as in 1. above.
The question--how do I get NT-W2K to put the whines out where I can
see them?
Current practice (after trying several >> c:\somewhere\log\Abat.log schemes,
none of which worked) is to run the thing by hand to see what whines are
evoked.
I've gotten over having to did out my DOS2.1 books, but gee whiz, we used to
be able to get transaction logs out of batch files.
