using mrtg-2.9.11 & rrdtool-1.0.33

Is there any way to force mrtg to use rrdtool db's from scratch?

2001-04-23 11:37:37 -- ERROR: Cannot create logfile: start time: unparsable

I'm having no luck converting db's, even those that I create with a run or
two specifically for the purpose of creating an mrtg db (let alone older
mrtg db's).

First run after using setting LogFormat: rrdtool .....

2001-04-23 11:28:24 -- ERROR: Cannot update
/usr/local/mrtg-2.9.11/Data/bmv-hub_1.rrd with '988039672:909981444:2743965'
opening 'dummy': No such file or directory

Subsequent runs ....

2001-04-23 11:33:59 -- ERROR: Cannot tune logfile: invalid arguments for
maximum ds value

Any pointers appreciated.
