How many times in a row did you get the alert? If it is less than 5,
I would not worry about it. SNMP does udp (send and forget), only
MRTG does not forget. If it doesn't hear back within the set timeout,
it sends another request. I think the timeout is 3 seconds and resend
is set at 5 (I think). I get this all the time. You should be concernedi
f you get this 5 times on the same collection sweep and your log is
not updated with the latest data. It all depends on what kind of
traffic is on your network, delays, contention, whatever, that may
cause snmp to not respond to the request.
Having said that, I have a script that watches my inbox for any target
that has this problem either all 5 times for two cycles (10 minutes),
or more than 2 times of unresponsiveness for 12 cycles (1 hour) and
alerts me when either condition is met.

Hello everyone!
I keep getting error messages once in a while with SNMPGET ifInOctects
ifOutOctets sysUptime sysName on community name ip address at
c:\mrtg-2.9.17\mrtg line 1491
Warning : Expected a number but got ' '
SNMP Error:
no response received
It seems tot give this error for the CPU mibs as well.
I did not change the script and we checked are devices and there is no
indication there was a problem with them .
Did it happen to anyone? If so what did you do to avoid this error message?
