For MRTG stand-alone, there isn't.  MRTG's only job is to take numbers that
you give it (from SNMP or a script or ...) and graphs them.  So if you can
get HTTP or SMTP traffic from the machine that you are trying to query, then
the job can be accomplished.  Another way to say it, MRTG is never "smarter"
than the device your are trying to query, and therefore cannot tell you any
more than the device can tell you.

I know the above did not answer your question, but it should help you get
your answer ...

inerface based. For example if I've to monitor bandwidth utilization on http
