[mrtg] Re: Too many hosts in single mrtg config files

I am converting from rateup to rrd and since rrd uses only the Target line
of the config I put all the Target lines in five large config files. I
still use cron to schedule 1/5 of my targets each minute the way I did with
rateup. It wonder if it would be more efficient to do it all with one
config? I have not tried the run-as-daemon option yet. I am currently
polling about 5000 targets and plan to try doing between 10,000-15,000 with
two machines eventually. I build the configs using cfgmaker and use scripts
to edit them the way I want them, then I grep the Targets into the big
configs and use them for polling. The original configs are used by
14all.cgi to display things in more manageable groupings.

With rateup I changed the default graph sizes and was surprised to see not
only were the graphs larger but they included more than 24 hours on the
"day" graph. I have not had much luck manipulating graphs with 14all.cgi.
I have not been able to get stats other than "In/OutOctets" such as CPU
percentages or modem counts to graph with rrd so I am still using rateup.
Changing the graph sizes does not work very well, sometimes it warps them so
badly you cannot read them. I remember seeing some recommended graph sizes
to try if you wanted to change but have been unable to find that document
again, does anyone know where that was?
