Not entirely true.  MRTG allows a minimum LOG FILE interval of 5 minutes.
There's nothing to stop you from polling more often.  In fact, MRTG is
designed to allow variations in the polling interval and can handle any
update.

So: no need to do so.

Be warned that running MRTG more often may result in degraded system
performance.  You may want to switch to RRDtool as the back end
(see 14all.cgi)
