Seems like I answer this question 2-3 times a week...

MRTG reads mib variables.  So, if you want to find out how much traffic a
specific application is using, you need to find a way to stuff it into a
mib.  Cisco provides a mechanism to count bytes and packets that match an
access list using CAR.  So, if you can describe it with an Access list, CAR
will allow you to pull the information out of a mib and graph it.

(note - in a recent e-mail I think I gave the wrong URL - comes from having
too many public/private sites around town and not enough gray-matter to keep
them straight...)


If you don't have a Cisco router, or have really old code and are unable to
upgrade it, then you would need to look for an RMON probe or some-such in
order to get the data that you want into a mib.
