RRDtool / snmp / RRgrapher / getif / Orca / SEtoolkit (solaris platforms)
RRGrapher I use as a rapid prototyper for quickly testing graphs, getif for
walking snmptrees from my windows box. Data is gathered by sar, SEtoolkit,
snmp and some custom scripts.
The graphs are produced by orca and some cron jobs, some custom work on html
for index pages for phb's :-( (gotta get that scripted)
MRTG is used for monitoring routers...it is just ideal for that...why
reinvent the wheel?.
This provides comprehensive hourly monitoring for around 40 web servers and
20 backend servers and more router interfaces than I care to count. Its quite
a hefty hit on the central server and I am starting to have doubts about the
maintainability of it all as we are rapidly expanding. (20 - 40 new boxes
this year depending on whether we go for lots of little boxes or just a few
bigguns!) So I am looking at NRG as an option.
