It's really simple to figure out. Just do the math. A full T-1 to the
internet is 1536Kbs (kilobits per second). So....

     1536Kb     1B
     ------  x  --  =  192KB/s
       s        8b

in other words. 1Byte = 8bits (notice the capital B vs. the lowercase b).
So....if you divide bits/s by 8, you get Bytes/s

Therefore:
10Mb/s (ethernet)= 1.25MB/s;
100Mb/s (fast eth)=12.5MB/s;
256Kbs (serial/frame/etc)=32KB/s;
etc, etc.

Or, you can just use the option: "Options[<your target name>]: bits" -OR-
"Options[_]: bits" as the default. Then, the charts will be graphed in bits
(Mb, Kb, etc) that will help equate the graph to what's on your invoice! :)
You will find that inbound from the internet will (almost!) always be
greater than outbound to the internet. An http request is just that, a
request. The downloads of the HTML, gifs, jpegs, java apps, etc will add up
over the course of a day. Depending on other traffic, you might notice
variations in that. That can be outbound email, serving HTTP/FTP/etc to the
internet (assuming you're hosting a web/ftp server).

Using MRTG to chart our traffic on our T-1 to the Internet. Charting in
Bytes Per Second, how much traffic will a typical T-1 handle before it is
saturating?

Ours is downloading between 48K and 96K during peak times, uploading much
less. Is that T-1 full?

Anyone have a typical T-1 chart I can compare ours to?
