routers.cgi does this by grabbing the *.cfg files where they reside and then
builds a nice page with it. There is a single .conf file that you can tweak
to display the cfg file names or 'friendly' aliases for them, for example:
it33001.cfg = 3com IT switch 1
This sounds similar to what you are looking for.

Is there a Perl script available to make a list of all the targets being
polled in MRTG.

Or better still, has anybody made changes to the MRTG script to export all
target names to a text file during each poll.

If this isn't available, is there any chance it could be added in the next
version of MRTG :-)
