Subject: [mrtg] quick & dirty windows MRTG/ RRD instructions

I have been meaning to write this for some time....
This is geared towards newbies like myself!
Eventually, I will put up my own MRTG "how to" (more like how "not" to.)
page

10 minute NT/2000 MRTG RRD install

1)	Download and install perl for windows from www.activestate.com
2)	download the latest MRTG build (unzip to where you want, keep in
mind that it creates its' own directory)
3)	Create the www directories you want, at least a directory for rrd
logs (the Workdir option will place logs in that directory spec'd in the cfg
file).
4)	download and install RRD (easy instructions included)
5)	Download and install David Sawyers' MR Daemon (place in start up or
use a utility to make it a service.
6)	Download and install routers.cgi from Steve Shipway (it has its' own
install script (perl)).
7)	Create or import your mrtg cfg files and at minimum add the
following:
				Logdir: E:\wwwroot\rrd #
where rrd will write logs
				PathAdd: C:\src\tool_release #
where rrdtool.exe lives
				LibAdd: c:\perl-shared
# rrd library location

				LogFormat: rrdtool
# rrd log format
1.	note: These are default locations on my MRTG server

All the above utilities are listed/linked under the MRTG: The Multi Router
Traffic Grapher <http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~oetiker/webtools/mrtg/> website
companion sites/links and contain easy to follow instructions.
