[mrtg] extreme swirtches with MRTG

I am using Mrtg to pull stats from Extreme switches. 
I have a problem with getting the description of the links 
to show up as anything other than "Rmon port ....."
I have set the description on the switch but MRTG doesn't see it.
Anyone have any luck with this
