Hi,
I had the same problem with the 6500. Apparently there is a bug in the IOS
on the 6500 whereby it doesn increment the ifHCInOctets and the
ifHCOutOctets (I think ??) values, these are the two snmp values that mrtg
monitors. I havent had a chance to upgrade the IOS on our 6500's yet to test
this though. 

There have been quite a few posts about this problem on this mailing list
you should take a look at the archives but I havent seen a workaround/fix
for it yet.

We are running MRTG on NT4.0 and it has been working great for a long time.
