[mrtg] Interface References

I am facing a minor prob with mrtg....

I would like to reference my targets using their description e.g Serial4/0
rather than their index number. Searching the archives, I found that this
is simple, using cfgmaker (with the option --ifref=descr). However, I have
already my cfg files working, so I wish to add that option in my cfg
files.

any suggestions where should I define this?

Also, I would like to know which version of mrtg supports this feature.
