The right answer really is in the doc, unfortunately it is yes.  

Kinda.  Out of the box, mrtg/rrdtool/14all will only do 2 data trends.  
Since it is really 14all that does the graphing, and mrtg that only 
does collection, 14all is the script you need to modify to draw more 
than 2 series.
