That's one solution, but I've found that I don't really like how the directory option works for me with rrd.  You could always put the name of the device.GigE2.  That would work, and I hope the names of the devices are not the same as well as the interfaces...

One option would be to have devices in seperate directories. Use the 
Directory: operative on each target to have the log/rrd files in differentp
 laces. I think this would solve your problem.
