[mrtg] Output from "cron" problem

I have mrtg setup to run from cron on a Sun Solaris 7 system as below: -

4,9,14,19,24,29,34,39,44,49,54,59 * * * * /usr/local/mrtg-2/bin/mrtg
/usr/local/
mrtg-2/cfg/mrtg.cfg

It periodically gives the following error but not at every invocation: -

Your "cron" job on server-apg
/usr/local/mrtg-2/bin/mrtg /usr/local/mrtg-2/cfg/mrtg.cfg

produced the following output:

Can't fork at /usr/local/mrtg-2/bin/mrtg line 560.

I've looked at the code but work out why it's doing this.  Has anybody seen
this before or got any ideas as to what's going on?
