I use this config file to monitor the messages sent by our MTA. (I am guessing that you mean GroupWise MTA) The GroupWise counter uses a moving average counter so you will need to take that into account when reading the graphs.
Here is the config
Title[^]: Number of messages routed in the past 10 minutes by MTA:
Target[MTA_ROUTE10]: 1.3.6.1.4.1.23.2.37.1.1.1.10.1&1.3.6.1.4.1.23.2.37.1.1.1.10.1:xxxx at 198.0.0.1
MaxBytes[MTA_ROUTE10]: 20000
Title[MTA_ROUTE10]: Routed
PageTop[MTA_ROUTE10]:
Number of Messages Routed in the last 10 minutes on MTA

Options[MTA_ROUTE10]: gauge, nopercent
XSize[MTA_ROUTE10]: 380
YSize[MTA_ROUTE10]: 100

Well I collect the following data:
mtaTransmitedMessages (The number of messages transmitted since MTA
initialization), type: Counter.
How do I need to interpret these data with MRTG? Messages per second?
If I would like to interpret these data: messages per minutes, do I need to
multipy collected data by 60?
