[mrtg] About logs and how data is consolidated...

Dear all,

I'm monitoring a GigaSwitch (with no 32-bit counters) and I've overflow
problems. Nowadays I've to query every 30 seconds every port (48 FE + 6 Gb)
in order to graph the whole traffic switched... but not only that, I graph
every port statistics and this is too much stress on the network.

I'm planning to query every port every minute and instead of re-querying
each one for taking global statistics, take a look at the log.

The question is:
I'm monitoring counters, SNMP read the value of them and calculate the
increment between each query, when MRTG creates the log, does it write the
increment or writes the value as if gauge options was chosen?

Is the meaning of the first line IN/OUT like the rest of the log file? or
in the first one it is the increment and the other ones is the absolute
value to graph?

I hope I've explained my doubt... my English has to improve....

Thanks in advance, David Manchado.
