depends.

Are you looking to run mrtg on a linux box to monitor other hosts? Such as a router, switch, etc.?


Or, do you want to monitor the linux box itself?

If you want to monitor other hosts, they just need to support SNMP.

If you want to monitor the linux box, you will need to get an snmp daemon (http://net-snmp.sourceforge.net/)
