Assuming that you're using Cisco switch, a tool written by Tobi called
'cammer' may help. It's available at

Subject: [mrtg] MAC Addresses
I have a problem determining what servers are on what ports of a switch. We
colocate our servers at a remote location. When they set up the servers on
the switch, they did not put IPs in the description so we could determine
what servers are on what port. Now, I can certainly use the Web Interface
to look at the Interfaces and there are MAC addresses and names
(Fastethernet0/1, Fastethernet0/2) for each interface. I can lookup an IP
and MAC address in the MAC address table, but when I go to look for that MAC
address on the Interfaces page there is no matching MAC address. I am
monitoring the switch with MRTG and there is no matching MAC address in the
config file for some IPs either. This is really frustrating not knowing
what servers are on what ports. Is there something else I can do or just
call the people we colocate with and maybe they can help. Thanks and I hope
I wasn't too confusing.
